Best Photography Spots In OC
I like to start looking for interesting scenes while I’m commuting in my car from my home in Anaheim to work in Santa Ana. I always look at various elements along the way such as light pole shadows, telephone wires, freeway signs, vehicles and people.
I look for intersections and streets that have a lot of traffic and activity. Intersections with stop lights are also ideal because they present additional visual elements and subjects; street lines, cars waiting at red lights, pedestrians crossing the street etc.
Los Rios Historic District
This is a great scene to photograph because of the contrast of old and new. The area has several antique buildings that are beautifully restored and the streets are lined with new large apartment buildings.
DTSA
More than just great fish tacos, Downtown Santa Ana is the location for the Orange County Food Truck Association which is one of the best food trucks in Orange County. The association holds a popular event in Hollywood Park at the end of every month. It is great for some urban street photography.
DTSA has very friendly people who love to talk about their food and photography, participate in contests and become friends with fellow photographers. As a member of DTSA I’ve met some wonderful people and I’ve learned a lot about photography from attending their events.
Costa Mesa
There are some great camera locations around the Santa Ana Fashion Square Mall. The mall has a unique atmosphere and the lamp posts, street signs and traffic lights create some interesting camera angles.
Los Feliz
Los Feliz is a very nice area for street and city photography. It is a small area with beautiful landscaping and interesting dwellings.
The intersections of Vermont and Los Feliz boulevard are ideal for capturing the best of the urban streetscape. At that location you will find nice landscaping, colorful houses, and some interesting cars.
Bella Terra
Bella Terra has a great vibe. It is a shopping center in Huntington Beach with beautiful California architecture and richly landscaped grounds. The center has a great mix of upscale shops, cozy cafes, great food and it exudes the appeal of Southern California.
Old Towne Orange
Old Towne Orange is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Orange County. It has a blend of history and modern attractions.
There are many interesting fashions shops, art galleries and restaurants that make up this lively scene. I recommend walking around the area with your camera for an interesting time with lots of photo opportunities.
Bottom Line
To conclude this article; my best advice to you is to take your camera with you and capture the amazing scenes in Orange County. There are so many great urban locations you will never run out of interesting scenes.
