The Main Museum of Los Angeles Art is an evolving institution focused on L.A. art and artists. With a residency program at its center rather than a collection, The Main situates artists prominently and supports their continued engagement within the city’s evolving landscape.

When complete, The Main will unfold across three historic buildings in Downtown Los Angeles — the Farmers & Merchants Bank, the Hellman Building, and the Bankhouse Garage. It will include a variety of exhibition galleries, studio spaces for an artists’ residency program, a rooftop sculpture garden, amphitheater, a café and a restaurant.

A preliminary experimental space, Beta Main, located in what will later become The Main Museum’s entrance, opens October 30, 2016.ABOUT BETA MAIN

Beta Main is a test site for The Main that will run in tandem with the development of the rest of the museum. By way of Beta’s programs, exhibitions, and opportunities to connect with the community, The Main will learn by doing, refining its vision and methods to make the greatest positive impact as a cultural catalyst in Los Angeles.TEAM

Allison Agsten is Director of The Main Museum of Los Angeles Art. Previously, as Curator of Public Engagement at the Hammer Museum, she led a pioneering program devoted to creating an exchange between visitors and the museum through works of art. Agsten also oversaw the museum’s artist board, initiated the Hammer’s visitor services department, and organized a major offsite partnership with Art + Practice, an art and social services non-profit in south L.A. Prior to her time at the Hammer, Agsten was Director of Communications at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), spearheading a number of projects related to accessibility including Reading Room, a first-of-its kind program to make rare LACMA publications available for free online. Prior to joining LACMA, Agsten covered the arts as a producer in CNN’s Los Angeles bureau.

Tom Gilmore is a downtown Los Angeles-based developer of residential and commercial properties whose early projects in the city’s historic core led to the largest resurgence of real estate investment and development the city has experienced in nearly a century. In 1998, Gilmore and co-founder Jerri Perrone formed an independent development firm, Gilmore Associates, to embark upon the redevelopment of the Historic Core of Downtown Los Angeles. Since their first historic building opened to residents in 2000, more than 60,000 residents now call downtown LA home, and more than $5 billion in residential, business, entertainment and arts projects have been introduced to the city center. Tom Gilmore’s commitment to the civic identity of Los Angeles is evident in his roles as the former Commissioner Chair for the LA Homeless Services Authority, Chairman of Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc), Mayoral- appointee as Chairman of Sister Cities of Los Angeles, Executive Committee member of Central City Association, Executive Committee member of Los Angeles Tourism and Convention Board, and Board member of the Los Angeles Parks Foundation.

Jerri Perrone, a partner at Gilmore Associates, shares Gilmore’s vision of redeveloping abandoned and historic neighborhoods in Downtown Los Angeles. She has been involved in numerous acquisitions and redevelopment projects including the Farmers and Merchants National Bank, soon to become home to The Main Museum. Prior to joining Gilmore Associates, Perrone was Director of Asset Management for MetLife Realty Group in New York. She also managed the national portfolio of office and industrial properties for individual and commingled pension fund clients at Sentinel Real Estate Advisors in New York.
